Can a believing wife sanctify an unbelieving husband (I Cor. 7:14)
Obviously this is not speaking of salvation because salvation does not come through marriage. No one can receive forgiveness of sins nor be born again because they are married or the child of a believer.
Forgiveness of sins can only be obtained through the blood of Christ and life only through the resurrection of Christ.
Will you please listen to the scriptures.
1 Corinthians 7:12-14
12 But to the rest I, not the Lord, say: If any brother has a wife WHO DOES NOT BELIEVE (this means that she is lost), and she is willing to live (willing to believe - NO! She loves her husband not Christ) with him, let him not divorce her (this is speaking of marriage not salvation).
13 And a woman who has a husband WHO DOES NOT BELIEVE (he is lost and on his way to hell if he continues in unbelief), if he is willing to live (stay married not believe in Christ) with her, let her not divorce him (she should remain married to this man).
14 For the UNBELIEVING (is an unbeliever sanctified - NO!!!) husband is sanctified (sanctified in what way - he is not a fornicator nor an adulterer) by the wife, and the unbelieving (same as the unbelieving man) wife is sanctified by the husband; otherwise your children would be unclean (does unclean here have anything to do with being or not being a sinner? Are children declared clean and without sin just because one of the parents is a born again believer? Of course not! They too must be born again on their own. This is basically stating the obvious, that they, the unbelieving spouse and the children, will partake in the benefits of the blessings of God upon the believing parent by default)
but now they are holy (Holy in what way? They will have the most precious gift God can give any child. What’s that? They will have at least one parent who will tell them the gospel. They will witness first hand the grace of God on the believing parent. They will be the recipients of receiving this precious gift from the LORD God that most will not get. They get to witness the parent praying, studying the scriptures, attending church, exhibiting a lifestyle of godliness, worshiping the one true God, walking in the Spirit, conducting spiritual warfare, lovingly obeying God, resisting the devil, etc)
What a tremendous blessing for the unbelieving spouse and children.
If both parents were unbelievers then none of this would be possible.
Nonetheless the down side of this is that they will be held accountable for the light they are exposed to. They will receive the greater condemnation in the day of judgement than those who did not have such privilege.
