Where in the OT does the Messiah say He is God?? Part 3
Here's my second entry from the prophet Isaiah. When Isaiah was commissioned to be a prophet, he was allowed to enter the throne room of the Most High God, the LORD God. Yet Isaiah did not call Him the LORD God. The only God that Isaiah saw was the Lord of Hosts. The same Lord of Hosts who was speaking through the prophet Zechariah.
Isaiah 6:1-5 (NKJV)
Isaiah Called to Be a Prophet
1 In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple. 2 Above it stood seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. 3 And one cried to another and said:
“Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts;
The whole earth is full of His glory!”
4 And the posts of the door were shaken by the voice of him who cried out, and the house was filled with smoke.
5 So I said:
“Woe is me, for I am undone!
Because I am a man of unclean lips,
And I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips;
For my eyes have seen the King,
The LORD of hosts.”
According to Isaiah, the Lord of hosts is the only One, True, and Living God. There is none other besides Him, for He alone is high, lifted up, and thrice holy.
Yet this same prophet Isaiah makes an incredible statement later in his prophecy in chapter 48.
Isaiah 48:2-3 (NKJV)
2 For they call themselves after the holy city,
And lean on the God of Israel;
The LORD of hosts is His name:
3 “I have declared the former things from the beginning;
They went forth from My mouth, and I caused them to hear it.
Suddenly I did them, and they came to pass.
Who is the one speaking? It is the Lord of hosts. He continues to speak.
Isaiah 48:12-13 (NKJV)
12 “Listen to Me, O Jacob,
And Israel, My called:
I am He, I am the First,
I am also the Last.
13 Indeed My hand has laid the foundation of the earth,
And My right hand has stretched out the heavens;
When I call to them,
They stand up together.
Then the Lord of hosts through the prophet Isaiah gives this remarkable declaration.
Isaiah 48:16 (NKJV)
16 “Come near to Me (the Lord of hosts), hear this:
I (the Lord of hosts) have not spoken in secret from the beginning;
From the time that it was, I (the Lord of hosts) was there.
AND NOW THE LORD GOD AND HIS SPIRIT HAVE SENT ME."
Wait, what?!!!! Who has the authority to send the Holy One of Israel, the King of glory, the Creator of all things, the One before whom the angels cry out both day and night - holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts! Who has the authority to send God anywhere and where did they send Him?
John 5:30 (NKJV)
30 I can of Myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is righteous, because I do not seek My own will but the will of the Father who sent Me.
John 6:38 (NKJV)
38 For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.
John 10:34-36 (NKJV)
34 Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your law, ‘I said, “You are gods“‘? 35 If He called them gods, to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture cannot be broken), 36 do you say of Him whom the Father sanctified and SENT INTO THE WORLD, ‘You are blaspheming,’ because I said, ‘I am the Son of God’?
John 17:8 (NKJV)
8 For I have given to them the words which You have given Me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came forth from You; and they have believed that You sent Me.
John 17:18-19 (NKJV)
18 As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. 19 And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the truth.
1 Timothy 3:16 (NKJV)
16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness:
God (the Lord of hosts) WAS MANIFESTED IN THE FLESH,
Justified in the Spirit,
Seen by angels,
Preached among the Gentiles,
Believed on in the world,
Received up in glory.
Romans 11:33-36 (NKJV)
33 Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out!
34 “For who has known the mind of the LORD?
Or who has become His counselor?”
35 “Or who has first given to Him
And it shall be repaid to him?”
36 For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things, to whom be glory forever. Amen.
