Since God created humans in His image, male and female, does this mean that God has genitals like humans?
The answer to your question is not difficult and is provided within the scriptures, though it seems you are asking in jest.
24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him MUST WORSHIP IN SPIRIT and truth." John 4:24
This verse alone makes it clear that no one can worship God with their bodies which the scriptures call flesh. God only receives worship from that which He creates. You may be asking, “are you saying God didn’t “create” our bodies?” No, I didn’t say that God did. I will explain later, keep reading.
39 Behold My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself. Handle Me and see, FOR A SPIRIT DOES NOT HAVE FLESH AND BONES as you see I have." Luke 24:39
Humans do not communicate with God through their bodies, they communicate with God in their human spirit which resides in their bodies.
Therefore, if God is Spirit and created man/woman (I will deal with this later) in His image, what did God create? It is obvious that God created a human spirit without a body.
8 But THERE IS A SPIRIT IN (inside the body of every) man, And the breath of the Almighty gives him understanding. Job 32:8
27 The SPIRIT OF A MAN (not the body of a man) is the lamp of the LORD, Searching all the inner depths of his heart. Proverbs 20:27
1 The burden of the word of the LORD against Israel. Thus says the LORD, who stretches out the heavens, lays the foundation of the earth, and FORMS THE SPIRIT OF MAN within him (his physical body): Zechariah 12:1
How and when did this happen? God first created the spirit of man (Adam), then the soul of man.
26 Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image (human spirit), according to Our likeness (like the body of the man Jesus that God has always possessed); let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth." 27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Genesis 1:26-27
Note the absence of the physical body in the above verses. You may now be wondering, "where are their bodies?". Well, God didn't create that until later in that day and not at the same time. Adam received his body first from the "dust of the ground", then Eve received her body later from the "rib of Adam".
7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being. Genesis 2:7
21 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. 22 Then the rib which the LORD God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man. Genesis 2:21-22
Please pay close attention to what is stated by the LORD God. The body of man was formed (which means fashioned, it was not created! The dust was created and already in existence therefore all the Lord did was take that which was created, Adam's human spirit and his human soul, then took dust to fashion a body. The human spirit and soul are created in God's image and likeness, meaning that from their existence they can never be extinguished, our spirits and souls are the real us. It doesn't require food, clothing, water, etc. to live however the human body was created out of the physical earth and was cursed by God, Who declared that it will die and the earth will be completely destroyed.
17 Then to Adam He said, "Because you have heeded the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying, 'You shall not eat of it': "Cursed is the ground for your sake; In toil you shall eat of it All the days of your life. 18 Both thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you, and you shall eat the herb of the field. 19 In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread Till you return to the ground, For out of it you were taken; For dust you are,
And to dust you shall return." Genesis 3:17-19
15 All flesh would perish together, and man would return to dust. Job 34:15
The body has no life in itself. It wasn't until God place the breath of life, which is the human spirit, inside the body did it come to life. When the human spirit leaves the body, it will die.
29 You hide Your face, they are troubled; You take away their breath (human spirit), they die (their body) and (it, the body) return to their dust. Psalms 104:29
7 Then the dust (our human bodies) will return to the earth as it was, And the (human) spirit will return to God who gave it. Ecclesiastes 12:7
20 All go to one place (Hades or the grave which has at that time, two compartments): all are from the dust, and all return to dust. Ecclesiastes 3:20
Now as far as all humans being born in the image of God, that is not a biblical statement, although I understand what most people mean when saying it. However, if one doesn't have knowledge of the truth as presented in scriptures, this can lead to an incorrect interpretation and a deceptive doctrine. Please note what the scriptures actually say:
1 This is the book of the genealogy of Adam. In the day that God created man, He made him (Adam and only Adam) in the likeness of God. 2 He created them male (Adam) and female (Eve) and blessed them and called them Mankind in the day they were created. Genesis 5:1-2
Ask yourself, who was created in God's image? One man, Adam, and one woman, Eve. That's it, that is what the scriptures teaches.
Now what about the rest of humanity? In whose image, are we? Well, the scriptures tell us that too, in the very next verse.
3 And Adam lived one hundred and thirty years, and begot a son (begot a son, not created a son) IN HIS (Adam's not God's) OWN LIKENESS, AFTER HIS (Adam's not God's) OWN IMAGE, and (then Adam) named him (Adam named his son, God named Adam) Seth. Genesis 5:3
Adam was created in God's image and likeness. God named him. We are made in Adam's image and are named by our father with one tragic and glaring difference. Adam begot all his children after he fell into sin thereby making us all SINNERS!!!!
If you want to enter heaven, God must create you a new human spirit. That's the new birth, not your physical body which will die. This is what Jesus was talking about when He said you must be BORN (created) AGAIN, of water (the word of God) and Spirit (by the Holy Spirit who created Adam).
5 Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born again.' John 3:5-7
Our flesh can only reproduce itself but God requires a new CREATION. God alone can create, Adam and all humanity can only beget or reproduce.
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17
15 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but a new creation. Galatians 6:15
23 And I will sanctify My great name, which has been profaned among the nations, which you have profaned in their midst; and the nations shall know that I am the LORD," says the Lord GOD, "when I am hallowed in you before their eyes. 24 For I will take you from among the nations, gather you out of all countries, and bring you into your own land. 25 Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols. 26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. 27 I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them. Ezekiel 36:23-27
4 But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, 5 not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, 6 whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7 that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life. Titus 3:4-7
Hope that helps.
