Social Justice and the Church of Jesus Christ
Hello friends. I want to address a hot topic today which is Social Justice and the Church of Jesus Christ.
What is the true purpose of the Church of Christ? According to some it is for social justice and to correct the ills of this sin filled, wicked, fallen world.
Is the Church of Christ to be a community where messed up people are welcomed; Outcasted people are loved; underdogs find a champion; the hopeless finds hope; and the friendless finds a friend?
According to many, the answer to that question would be, absolutely!
Does that however align with the scriptures. The gospel of Christ is not about compassion but about salvation of the sinner from the wrath of a holy God whom the sinner has offended with his or her sins.
First the church is people not a place to visit.
Second the church of Christ is sent to people pointing them to the only escape from the wrath of a holy, righteous, and just God and not people seeking God. As the scriptures declares that there is none who seeks after God. Rom. 3:10-11
Third, the church is seeking wretched, rotten, wicked, corrupt, morally bankrupt, and totally depraved sinners who are in need is a Savior.
“for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.” Luke 19:10
Christ died for the ungodly. Christ died to save people from their sins. Christ died so that the sinner who is DEAD in their own trespasses and sins can escape the horrible wrath of God which is the second death. That death is forever in a place called outer darkness where the sinner is casted into a lake of fire where their worm (guilty wicked conscience) die not and the fire is never quenched. There will forever be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Jesus did not come to fix your life nor did He come to give the sinner what the sinner wants.
I will let the Lord Himself tell you all why He came.
Christ Brings Division
Matthew 10:34-39
“Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword. For I have come to ‘set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law’; and a man’s enemies will be those of his own household.’ He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it.
John 10:10
The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
Acts 26:15-18
So I said, 'Who are You, Lord?' And He said, 'I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. But rise and stand on your feet; for I have appeared to you for this purpose, to make you a minister and a witness both of the things which you have seen and of the things which I will yet reveal to you. I will deliver you from the Jewish people, as well as from the Gentiles, to whom I now send you, to open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.'
Matthew 1:21
And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins."
People want religion and a club however the LORD God is only interested in saving sinners from Himself. While there is a place for compassion and love, it can only be offered in the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Members of the body of Christ have no business getting involve with trying to right the wrongs of the consequences of sin, which is injustice, the absence of true love, and no peace. Will you listen to the Most High God.
Isaiah 48:22
”There is no peace,” says the LORD, “for the wicked.”
And just in case you misunderstood what the Lord said the first time He puts you in remembrance.
Isaiah 57:21
”There is no peace,” Says my God, “for the wicked.”
In order to bring peace amongst nations, peoples, ethic groups, tongues, families, neighbors, friends, and enemies, one must know the Prince of Peace. Until Christ Jesus returns, social justice is unobtainable. As a matter of biblical prophecy, the division within society will continually get worse and worse until it brings a false peace from the false christ, namely the Anti-Christ, the man of sin. This person will be the Devil in human flesh who will deceive the world with a false peace of social justice but it will send the world into a tailspin of total destruction.
Then suddenly, at the world's darkest hour, Christ Jesus the King of glory arrives on the scene from heaven with His Saints and mighty angels to destroy that wicked one, the false prophet, and the Devil.
Let me share with you what will happen in that day.
2 Thes. 1:3-10
God’s Final Judgment and Glory
We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is fitting, because your faith grows exceedingly, and the love of every one of you all abounds toward each other, so that we ourselves boast of you among the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that you endure, which is manifest evidence of the righteous judgment of God, that you may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you also suffer; since it is a righteous thing with God to repay with tribulation those who trouble you, and to give you who are troubled rest with us when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power, when He comes, in that Day, to be glorified in His saints and to be admired among all those who believe, because our testimony among you was believed.
What will that look like? God explains it to the prophet Zechariah.
Zechariah 14:1-7
The Day of the LORD
(cf. Ezek. 38; 39; Mark 13; Rev. 20—22)
Behold, the day of the LORD is coming, And your spoil will be divided in your midst. For I will gather all the nations to battle against Jerusalem; The city shall be taken, The houses rifled,
And the women ravished. Half of the city shall go into captivity,
But the remnant of the people shall not be cut off from the city.
Then the LORD will go forth And fight against those nations,
As He fights in the day of battle. And in that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, Which faces Jerusalem on the east. And the Mount of Olives shall be split in two, From east to west, Making a very large valley; Half of the mountain shall move toward the north And half of it toward the south. Then you shall flee through My mountain valley, For the mountain valley shall reach to Azal. Yes, you shall flee As you fled from the earthquake
In the days of Uzziah king of Judah. Thus the LORD my God will come, And all the saints with You. It shall come to pass in that day.
He continues:
Zechariah 14:12-15
And this shall be the plague with which the LORD will strike all the people who fought against Jerusalem: Their flesh shall dissolve while they stand on their feet, Their eyes shall dissolve in their sockets, And their tongues shall dissolve in their mouths.
It shall come to pass in that day That a great panic from the LORD will be among them. Everyone will seize the hand of his neighbor, And raise his hand against his neighbor’s hand; Judah also will fight at Jerusalem. And the wealth of all the surrounding nations Shall be gathered together: Gold, silver, and apparel in great abundance. Such also shall be the plague On the horse and the mule, On the camel and the donkey, And on all the cattle that will be in those camps. So shall this plague be.That there will be no light; The lights will diminish. It shall be one day Which is known to the LORD— Neither day nor night. But at evening time it shall happen That it will be light.
If you are a true born again believer, stop wasting your time attempting to bring social justice to this wicked sin filled world. You are wasting your time.
Then what should we do? We should preach the gospel and make disciples of Christ Jesus by teaching the word of God. It's their and our only hope to be saved from the penalty of our own sin which brings the wrath of God upon the head of the sinner who sins have not been placed upon the cross of Jesus Christ.
