Why did God allow Polygamy in the Old Testament?
Hello everyone. Today I answer the question, Why did God allow Polygamy in The Old Testament? from Clement Joseph.
Below is the answer from the scriptures.
For the same reason he allowed divorce.
Matthew 19:7-8
They said to Him, “Why then did Moses command to give a certificate of divorce, and to put her away?”
He said to them, “Moses, because of the hardness of your hearts, permitted you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so.
Listen to the scriptures:
Romans 2:5-9
But in accordance with YOUR HARDNESS AND YOUR IMPENITENT HEART you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God, who “will render to each one according to his deeds”: eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality; but to those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness—indignation and wrath, tribulation and anguish, on every soul of man who does evil, of the Jew first and also of the Greek;
Just because God allows something, it doesn’t mean that He approves of it.
Galatians 6:7-8
Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.
The scriptures explains what hardness means and what happens as a result. Listen to God. Words in parenthesizes are mine, added for clarity.
Ephesians 4:17-19
17 This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk (live your life) as the rest of the Gentiles (unbelieving, unsaved, non-Jews through heritage) walk (their lifestyle - so how do an unbeliever live their lives),
1. in the futility (perverseness, depravity) of their (own) mind (with no outside influence),
2. 18 (as a result of this process, they are) having (it's a continual downward spiraling process of degradation) their understanding (of God's truth) darkened (void of all that is good in God's eyes not man's),
3. being (this is a constant state) alienated (totally separated) from (and never will have any desire whatsoever for) the life of God,
4. (why are they like that?) because of the ignorance (of God's truth and holiness) that is in (please do not walk over this little word, the ignorance is pervasive from the INSIDE of) them (it's not the devil, environment, family, friends, government - it's YOU!),
5. (but why?) because of the (willful) blindness of their heart (it's internal which produces the fruit for all to see);
6. 19 who (yes, you), being (a constant state) past feeling (you no have a moral compass therefore the next step is inevitable),
7. (what's inevitable? This) have given themselves (who did this? YOU! What did I do? You gave youself) over to lewdness (what in the world is that according to the scriptures? unbridled lust!)
8. (why would I do that? Because you fully desire) to work all uncleanness (uncleanness? Yes. That is, in a moral sense, the impurity of lustful, luxurious, immoral living with impure motives and YOU DO IT WITH) greediness (greediness? Yes, with ALL YOUR MIGHT and no one, especially God, can tell ME WHAT TO DO!).
